VfB Stuttgart CEO Wehrle says coach Hoeneß could one day become Germany's Bundestrainer
VfB Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle says head coach Sebastian Hoeneß has the potential to one day coach a Champions League winner or even the German national team, though he stressed such a move is still many years away.
Wehrle's endorsement
Alexander Wehrle, VfB Stuttgart's chief executive and supervisory board chairman at the German Football Association (DFB), has told Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland that he can envision head coach Sebastian Hoeneß eventually taking on the role of Bundestrainer. Wehrle, 51, said he had repeatedly stated he rates Hoeneß as a coach capable of working for a Champions League-winning club, and that he could equally imagine him receiving the chance to coach the national team at some point in his career.

Wehrle added that he is pleased Hoeneß remains contractually bound to the Swabian Bundesliga club until 2028. The 44-year-old took over Stuttgart in April 2023 and, in Wehrle's words, is doing valuable work.
Hoeneß's record at Stuttgart
Under Hoeneß, Stuttgart won the DFB-Pokal last year. This year he guided the club back to the cup final, where they lost 0:3 to FC Bayern Munich. He has also led Stuttgart into the Champions League on two occasions. Wehrle's comments come ahead of a busy period for the club as they prepare for the new season across three competitions.
