Valencia deploys over 1,800 security personnel for 9 d'Octubre celebrations
Authorities in Valencia finalized a security plan of more than 1,800 personnel across national and local forces to monitor public events and processions during the 9 d'Octubre holiday.
Joint security deployment across Valencia
Valencia municipal authorities and the central government delegation established a joint security deployment of more than 1,800 personnel for the upcoming 9 d'Octubre celebrations, marking the Day of the Valencian Community. The plan was confirmed following a local security board meeting chaired jointly by Valencia Mayor María José Catalá and the Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé. The national government will contribute 1,300 Policía Nacional officers to the operation, drawing on Intervention Units, plainclothes personnel, canine units, and aerial surveillance assets. In addition, the Guardia Civil de Tráfico will control highway access points into and out of the city to maintain traffic flow during the festivities.
Pilar Bernabé explained that operational teams will track weather conditions alongside planned public gatherings.
Coordination work will continue, and we will remain attentive to weather conditions since we have some instability over the coming days and sessions.
Municipal police and emergency resources
The Valencia City Council will deploy 523 municipal personnel, consisting of 450 local police officers, 63 firefighters, and ten Civil Protection volunteers. The 450 Local Police officers represent an increase of 122 officers (a 37.2% rise) compared to the 328 officers mobilized in 2023, marking the third consecutive year that the city has increased its holiday police allocation. Catalá attributed this capacity to the recruitment of 257 officers into the municipal force over the past two years.
We are allocating 122 more police officers than in 2023.

Commemoration of King Jaume I and civic relics
The 2026 festivity commemorates the 750th anniversary of the death of King Jaume I. For the first time in fifty years, following its last procession appearance in 1976, the monarch's sword will participate in the Civic Procession on 9 October alongside the Reial Senyera. City Comptroller General Ramón Brull Mandingorra was appointed custodian and bearer of the royal sword, while Vox councillor José Gosálbez will carry the Senyera. Between 6 and 8 October, both historical items will be on display in the City Hall's Salón de Cristal before the procession commences at 12:00 on 9 October, followed by a floral tribute. To protect the original flag before its centenary in 2028, the council awarded a 178,408.45 euro contract for an exact replica to be used starting in the 2027 procession.
We care for and protect our signs of identity.
