Turek launches free public bus network across two lines on 5 October
The town of Turek in Wielkopolska will introduce a free municipal bus service for residents on 5 October 2026, opening two routes and 28 stops under a pilot program running through year-end.
Pilot rollout in Turek
The municipality of Turek in eastern Wielkopolska will launch a public bus transport network on Monday, 5 October 2026. The town of 24,000 residents has operated without municipal public transport since the closure of its previous network in the early 2000s. Mayor Romuald Antosik announced that the new public service will operate as a pilot program running through the end of 2026. All rides on the new network will be free of charge for local residents holding a Turkowska Karta Mieszkańca. Operations on the two planned lines will be carried out by a local private carrier acting as the municipal subcontractor.

Timetables and route network
The initial network features two dedicated lines serving a total of 28 bus stops situated across the town and neighboring Słodków Kolonia. Line 1 will operate from Monday to Saturday, departing at 07:00 and 14:00 on a route linking the cemetery in Słodków Kolonia with Górnicza street in Turek. Line 2 will run between Górnicza street and Dworcowa street, offering departures at 06:30 and 14:50 from Monday to Saturday, alongside a third departure at 17:00 from Monday to Friday. The municipal timetable will pause services on 31 October and between 24 and 26 December, periods during which the town typically provides dedicated cemetery transit for the All Saints holiday. Mayor Antosik indicated that city officials will track passenger volume and adjust itineraries to local travel patterns during the pilot.
We will observe how individual connections function and listen to the feedback of residents. If the need arises, we will adjust routes and timetables so that the transit network best meets the needs of Turek residents.
Two decades of transit changes
Turek previously operated a public transport system until the start of the 21st century, after which internal city bus transit was completely dismantled. Regional travel was subsequently handled by PKS Turek, an enterprise initially owned by the Polish State Treasury before being transferred to local government control. PKS Turek was later privatised, eventually concluding operations in 2016, leaving the surrounding region served exclusively by independent private carriers. In February 2025, regional carrier PKS Konin reintroduced scheduled public transit with four daily weekday services to Turek.
- Line 1 (Mon-Sat)
- 2 departures
- Line 2 (Mon-Fri)
- 3 departures
- Line 2 (Sat)

- PKS Konin (Mon-Fri)

Regional links with Konin
Public transport connections to neighboring Konin broadened further in early September 2026, when regional rail operator Koleje Wielkopolskie introduced dedicated intercity bus routes. The Koleje Wielkopolskie service operates two afternoon and evening runs on weekdays, alongside four departures on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. Deputy Marshal Wojciech Jankowiak stated that the regional bus route was designed to supplement the commercial transport options already available on the market. With the launch of internal municipal lines on 5 October, Turek will integrate local neighborhood routes with existing regional connections across Wielkopolska.
