Trump marks 80th birthday with UFC cage fights on White House lawn, announces Iran peace deal
On Sunday, President Donald Trump marked his 80th birthday with a UFC mixed martial arts event on the South Lawn of the White House, drawing 4,000 invited guests while also confirming an initial Iran peace agreement.
A presidential birthday spectacle
On 14 June 2026, Donald Trump celebrated turning 80 by hosting "UFC Freedom 250", a set of 14 professional cage fights held on the White House lawn. The event, planned for over a year, tied into the 250th anniversary of American independence. Before the first punch, Trump used his Truth Social platform to confirm a peace deal with Iran, telling followers:
This great agreement will bring peace and security to the entire region.
The Claw and the show of force
A custom-built outdoor arena called "The Claw", nearly 30 metres tall with a canopy in US flag colours, dominated the presidential residence. As Trump saluted from the balcony, the national anthem played and twelve fighter jets flew overhead. Later, Trump and UFC president Dana White walked into the arena with raised fists, while the crowd chanted "USA, USA."

One third of the free tickets went to military personnel who met the no-overweight fitness rules imposed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth; the rest were given to White House employees and celebrities, while UFC distributed an additional 200. A deal alongside the drama
Just before the event began, Trump posted that a long-promised accord with Iran had been reached, aiming to end the war and the resulting oil price shock. The agreement, mediated by Pakistan, was expected to be signed the following Friday in Switzerland. Critics quickly pointed out that the White House was being used for both a diplomatic coup and a commercialized spectacle – a blend that Trump’s opponents denounced through a failed lawsuit and a New York protest concert featuring Jane Fonda and Bette Midler.
