Trump Media launches paid API for high-speed Truth Social access, drawing 'brazen corruption' accusations
Trump Media & Technology Group announced a paid API providing financial firms with millisecond-fast access to posts from top Truth Social accounts, including the president's, starting August 1. Critics call it an improper exploitation of the presidency for profit.
The announcement
Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, announced on Thursday a paid application programming interface (API) that will give financial services firms high-speed access to posts from the platform's most influential accounts. The service, called Truth API (also referred to as Truth PSI in some reports), is scheduled to launch on August 1. It is designed for algorithmic trading firms and other institutions that depend on split-second information advantages. Kevin McGurn, interim CEO of Trump Media, said the API would be "significantly faster than scraping Truth Social data" and noted that markets already react to posts on the platform.
Markets already move based on Truth Social posts.
The company said the feed will provide round-the-clock coverage and include an archive of posts dating back to 2022. No pricing details have been disclosed.
Monetizing the presidency
The move immediately drew sharp criticism from ethics experts and Democratic lawmakers, who described it as an improper monetization of the presidency. Kathleen Clark, a professor at Washington University School of Law and an expert on government conflicts of interest, called the initiative "brazen corruption."
He's selling expedited, privileged access to information about what he is doing as president. It's yet more brazen corruption, an improper exploitation of government power to enrich himself.
Senator Elizabeth Warren denounced the product on X as a "flagrant attempt to profit from the presidency and enrich Wall Street while doing nothing to help Americans." The Trump family company declined to comment on whether the new feature profits from the presidency, and Trump Media did not respond to questions about whether the president's own posts would be excluded from the offering.
Trump's platform dominance
Donald Trump is by far the most followed account on Truth Social, with 12.9 million followers. His eldest son Donald Trump Jr. and his son Eric occupy the next two spots. The president uses the platform as his primary digital communication channel, posting almost daily on topics ranging from the Iran war and tariffs to immigration enforcement. These posts have repeatedly moved financial markets, with investors scrambling to adjust positions on stocks, bonds, and interest rates within seconds of a new message.
Financial context and past earnings
The API arrives as Trump Media's stock has lost more than 70% of its value since the president took office in 2025, erasing $6 billion in shareholder wealth. Trump himself earned at least $1.2 billion from cryptocurrency ventures in 2025, according to financial disclosures made public in June. When asked about potential conflicts of interest, Trump has defended his business activities by stating that his wealth is managed by a trust and that he is not personally involved.

What comes next
The service is set to go live on August 1, with enterprise customers gaining access to a feed that the company says will be faster than manual monitoring or scraping. The exact speed advantage and subscription cost remain unknown. The controversy adds to ongoing scrutiny of Trump's intertwining of private business and public office, with critics arguing that the API creates a two-tier information system in which paying Wall Street firms can trade on presidential announcements before the general public or even news organizations receive them.
