Passenger trains collide in Wielkopolska: two injured as services halt near Białośliwie
A regional Polregio service and a PKP Intercity train collided shortly after 6 p.m. on Thursday in Białośliwie, western Poland. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, where about 200 passengers were aboard and at least two people were hurt.
What happened
An Intercity train travelling from Białogard to Warsaw and a Polregio train on the Piła–Bydgoszcz route collided near the station in Białośliwie (Greater Poland Voivodeship) on Thursday, 25 June 2026. The first emergency call was logged at 18:04, according to local fire authorities. Both trains partially derailed, and railway operator PKP PLK immediately suspended traffic on the affected line.
Casualties
Initial reports put the total number of passengers at roughly 200. By the early evening, no fatalities had been confirmed. One passenger suffered a head injury, while two others were treated at the scene, primarily for shock. One early police statement noted that a person with a head injury was being attended to, and that two further passengers required only minimal assistance. The regional fire brigades dispatched 14 units to the site.
Official response
Trains on the Piła–Bydgoszcz line are currently halted. Service will resume once we have verified whether there has been a derailment and checked the condition of the infrastructure.
Senior fire officer Martin Halasz confirmed the collision involved two passenger trains. Police spokesperson Łukasz Kędziora stated that initial information pointed to a collision between a passenger and a freight train, though later reports from other sources described both as passenger services. Authorities stressed the situation was developing and that the number of casualties could change.
Investigation
The causes of the collision remain unclear. PKP PLK announced that a special commission would investigate. No immediate indication was given as to whether human error, signalling failure, or weather conditions contributed to the incident. Technical teams from the railway operator were already on site conducting inspections.
