Pedestrian killed by PKP Intercity train in Koło, halting Poznań-Warsaw rail line
A PKP Intercity train struck and killed a pedestrian on Friday evening in Koło, and rail traffic on the Poznań-Warsaw line was halted from 20:00 with replacement buses ordered.
The collision
On Friday evening, 9 October, a PKP Intercity train travelling from Frankfurt (Oder) to Warsaw Wschodnia struck a person in Koło. According to PKP PLK spokesperson Katarzyna Głowacka, cited by PAP, the collision happened on a section of track away from level crossings and pedestrian crossings over the main line. The duty officer of the Wielkopolska State Fire Service told PAP that the report reached firefighters at about 19:40. Rescuers, police and fire crews arrived at the scene, where the victim was confirmed dead. Super Express wrote that the force of the impact was so great that the person died on the spot. E-kolo.pl reported that the victim was most likely a man.

At 20:00, on the instructions of the emergency services, train traffic on the section was stopped. Carriers were instructed to introduce replacement bus service for passengers on the route, which Super Express described as a major disruption to the Poznań-Warsaw connection. No time for resuming train traffic had been announced at the time of reporting.
Investigation
Police and a prosecutor are working at the scene to establish the identity of the victim and the exact circumstances of the accident. Investigators are examining how the pedestrian came to be in a place where they were not permitted to be. The sources do not yet give a cause for the collision.
