Tourist train overturns in Málaga town, 18 injured including nine children
A tourist train carrying around 30 people overturned during a local food festival in Cártama, Málaga, on Saturday evening, leaving 18 passengers injured, nine of them children.
Incident
On Saturday evening, around 9:30–9:40 p.m., a tourist train operating in the Málaga municipality of Cártama overturned. One of the carriages destabilised and tipped over while carrying roughly 30 passengers who were taking part in the town's Ruta de la Tapa gastronomic festival.
Casualties
Eighteen people were injured, split evenly between nine adults and nine minors aged 5 to 17. The injuries were described as of varying severity but not serious. All were treated on site by emergency medical personnel and later moved to several hospital facilities, either by ambulance or their own transport.
Emergency response
A unit from the Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos in Coín responded to the scene on Calle Santo Cristo. Firefighters provided first aid alongside health workers, secured the area, and stabilised the overturned carriage.
Service suspension
The tourist train ride has been suspended pending an investigation into the cause of the collapse. Authorities have not yet released a timeline for the inquiry.
