Body of man with stab wounds found in luxury Torrevieja complex; homeowner discovers corpse, one arrested
Spain’s Guardia Civil investigates a homicide after the owner of a La Veleta chalet in Torrevieja found a bloody man’s body in the yard on Friday. One person was arrested the same day.
Discovery of the body
On Friday, 10 July 2026, the owner of a detached house in the high-end La Veleta residential complex in Torrevieja (Alicante) discovered the lifeless body of a man in the courtyard of the property. The victim was lying in a pool of blood, and the corpse exhibited clear signs of violence, which sources close to the investigation described as injuries inflicted by a knife or other sharp weapon. The homeowner immediately sounded the alarm, alerting the Guardia Civil.
According to the newspaper Información, the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting some time had passed between the death and its discovery. The La Veleta urbanization is known for its detached chalets and international residents, but authorities have made no comment on any possible link between the location and the killing.
First steps in the investigation
Officers from the Guardia Civil post in Torrevieja, together with investigators from the Judicial Police of the Comandancia and forensic experts from the Criminalistics Laboratory, arrived at the scene. The specialists performed a detailed ocular inspection of the chalet’s courtyard and interior, documenting the position of the body and collecting trace evidence. Judicial commission officials, required under Spanish law to authorize the removal of a corpse in a suspicious death, subsequently arrived at the property.
Once the commission granted permission, the body was transported to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Alicante. An autopsy will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death and to assist the criminal investigation.
A swift detention
Even as forensic teams worked, Guardia Civil officers made a single arrest on Friday. No details have been released about the detainee, whether a resident of the complex, an acquaintance of the homeowner, or otherwise connected to the victim. The detention was confirmed by sources close to the case, but the Guardia Civil declined to provide further information.
Judicial secrecy and ongoing inquiry
The judicial authority has decreed the secrecy of the summary proceedings, a standard measure in Spanish law for serious crimes when disclosure might compromise the investigation. The order prevents the release of the victim’s identity, the suspect’s name, and any findings from the ongoing inquiry.
The investigation remains open, and the Guardia Civil continues to gather evidence. No other arrests have been reported, and there is no indication of whether additional suspects are being sought. The court’s decision to seal the file means that further public updates may be limited until the investigation concludes or the secrecy order is lifted.
