Third teen dies after Tarragona rock-jumping tragedy, bringing death toll to three
A 13-year-old boy died Sunday from injuries sustained when he and five other youths jumped off rocks into rough seas at Tarragona's l'Arrabassada beach on Friday, following the deaths of two friends, aged 12 and 13.
The accident
On Friday afternoon, a group of six youths jumped off rocks at l'Arrabassada beach in Tarragona despite a yellow flag warning of rough seas. Three were rescued from the water; one died at the scene and the other two were hospitalised in critical condition.
Rising toll
A 12-year-old boy died at the beach. The second victim, aged 13, died Saturday at Hospital Joan XXIII. The third, also 13, died overnight to Sunday.

Condolences
Catalonia's president Salvador Illa wrote on X that he was "deeply shocked" and offered support to the families.
There are no words at this moment of pain.
He also thanked emergency services, including the SEM medical service, Mossos d'Esquadra police and Bombers firefighters.
Community mourns
The town hall decreed three days of official mourning and flags fly at half-mast. Around 150 people gathered at the CD La Floresta football ground, where the 13-year-old captain Maikel played. Club president Pedro Pablo González remembered him as a great person.

Safety calls
Mayor Rubén Viñuales appealed for caution, saying it is dangerous to jump from rocks. He rejected the idea of positioning lifeguards every ten metres, noting that the children were 12 and 13 years old.
