Body of woman missing since April found in well in Málaga; three detained amid gender violence probe
A woman's body was found in a well near the Arroyo Cuevas in Rincón de la Victoria on Wednesday. Three people, including her partner, have been arrested in what authorities are treating as a suspected gender-based killing.
Discovery
The body of a woman was discovered on Wednesday, July 1, in a well located near the Arroyo Cuevas, close to exit 968 of the A-7 motorway in Rincón de la Victoria, Málaga. The site, a rural area of plots and farmhouses, was cordoned off as judicial authorities and a forensic doctor arrived to recover the corpse. It was later transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Málaga for an autopsy.
Investigation and arrests
Three people were arrested immediately after the body was found. Among them is the victim's current partner, according to sources close to the investigation. The operation was a joint effort by the National Police and the Guardia Civil, with the Guardia Civil taking charge of the area where the well is located. The investigating magistrate has sealed the proceedings, but the Government Sub-delegation in Málaga confirmed that the primary hypothesis is gender-based violence. No prior complaints of abuse had been filed, and the victim was not listed in the VioGén protection system.
We cannot allow sexist violence to continue destroying lives and inflicting so much pain.
Victim and disappearance
The woman, a Spanish national born in the 1990s (aged 35, according to El País), had been reported missing in April. Police had focused from the start on her immediate circle and specifically on her romantic partner, after receiving a missing-person complaint from Málaga. The search took investigators to a gas station near the A-7 and ultimately to the well where her body was hidden.
Broader context
If confirmed as a gender-violence killing, this would be the third such case in the province of Málaga in 2026. Earlier this year, a British mother was stabbed by her ex-partner in front of her children in Alhaurín el Grande in January. Rincón de la Victoria itself witnessed a similar crime last November, when a 60-year-old woman was killed by her former partner in the Cotomar area. The autopsy report is now awaited to determine the exact cause of death and clarify the timeline of the crime.
