Mossos arrest suspect in fatal shooting of 15-year-old in Barcelona park
Catalan police detained a man Friday night in connection with the killing of 15-year-old Marlon, shot in La Pegaso park in what authorities describe as a gang confrontation.
The shooting
Marlon, 15, was with his younger brother and other family members in La Pegaso park in Barcelona's La Sagrera neighbourhood when a group approached and opened fire around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, 2 July. Emergency services found the teenager in critical condition and were unable to revive him. The attackers fled along Avenida Meridiana.
The fact that he is a minor is a red line of maximum gravity.
Arrest and investigation
Mossos d'Esquadra arrested an adult male suspect just before midnight on Friday in an apartment on Avenida Meridiana, close to the crime scene. Officers from the force's special intervention group (GEI) carried out the operation because the suspect was believed to be armed. The man is being held for questioning before appearing before an investigating judge. The investigation, led by the Criminal Investigation Division, remains under judicial secrecy.

Gang violence context
Interior Minister Núria Parlon said initial evidence points to a clash between youth gangs. Police described the killing as a "direct action", not a random or accidental event. La Pegaso park, a large recreational space used by families, has become an area where gang members are often present, according to local reports. The homicide is the seventh involving a firearm in the Barcelona metropolitan area during the first half of 2026: five in the city, one in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and one in Badalona.
