What happened
Fire crews arrived shortly after the first call. The fire had taken hold in the attic and quickly spread across the roof.

Part of the roof collapsed onto the pavement below, sending debris into the street. The narrow courtyard and parked cars made access difficult for the fire engines. Operations covered around 900 square metres of the building.

What's next
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. A building inspector will examine the structural integrity of the block later on 1 July. Residents unable to return home will receive assistance from the municipality.
