Prince Harry to bring Meghan, Archie and Lilibet to UK for Invictus Games event in first family visit since 2022
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their children Archie and Lilibet are set to travel to Britain in July for an Invictus Games countdown event, marking the family's first joint visit to the UK in four years.
The reported plan
British media including the Telegraph, Daily Mail and BBC reported on Wednesday that Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are preparing to bring their children Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, to the United Kingdom in July. The occasion is a countdown event for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, the competition for wounded veterans that Harry founded in 2014.
Harry says he's coming back before the end of the year with the children with the express intent to reunite with his dad.
No official comment had been issued by the Duke's spokesperson at the time of reporting. The trip would be the first time the entire family has set foot in Britain together since the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022.
Security wrangle
Harry has repeatedly said he could not bring his wife and children to the UK without adequate police protection. After he stepped back from royal duties in 2020, the British government removed his automatic security detail. He lost a Court of Appeal challenge against the Home Office in 2025 and told the BBC at the time:
I can't see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK.
Now, multiple sources suggest the security issue has moved towards a resolution. The Telegraph says Harry has been assured sufficient protection will be in place, while The Sun reports that the government ordered a formal review of his security level in December. An unnamed source told the Telegraph that all parties now want peace.
Family rift and grandfather
The King has barely seen his two youngest grandchildren since their birth. The last meeting was a private encounter during the Platinum Jubilee. Charles is being treated for cancer, and one source said Harry was deeply saddened by not being able to bring the children to their home country. It is not yet confirmed whether a meeting with Charles will take place in July.
The father-son relationship showed signs of a thaw last September (2025) when Harry sat down with Charles for tea at Clarence House, their first face-to-face meeting in 19 months. Yet ties with Prince William remain frozen after Harry's memoir "Spare" and the couple's Netflix series levelled a barrage of accusations against the royal family.
He has wanted to have his kids meet their grandfather, especially after their summit in London last year. While there have been deep-seated trust issues around Harry, there is a sense now that all parties want peace.

What comes next
The Invictus Games are set for Birmingham from 10 to 17 July 2027. The July visit marks the one-year countdown and will include events with Harry's patronages such as WellChild and Scotty's Little Soldiers. The trip, if confirmed, would bring the family back to the UK for the first time in four years, potentially opening a new chapter in the Windsor family's strained relations.
