Spain issues special weather warning for heavy rain and flood risk across eastern regions
The Spanish State Meteorological Agency warned that rainfall exceeding 150 liters per square meter in six hours could cause local flooding from October 1 through at least October 5.
Spain's State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a special alert for persistent, intense rainfall beginning Thursday, October 1, and continuing at least through Monday, October 5. The agency stated that atmospheric instability and moisture from the Mediterranean will affect eastern and interior areas.
Accumulations may exceed 150 liters per square meter in less than six hours, which could lead to local flooding and river channel surges.
Precipitation is forecast to intensify from midday Thursday through Friday across Castellón, Valencia, the northern coast of Alicante, and southern Tarragona, as well as nearby parts of Lleida, Teruel, and Cuenca. The Balearic Islands may also experience strong thunderstorm showers. Rainfall will continue across broad sections of the Iberian Peninsula through the weekend with lower intensity, before an isolated high-altitude depression (DANA) forms in the west on Sunday, October 4.
