Polish ski jumper and coach Grzegorz Miętus dies at 33
Former Polish ski jumper and junior national team coach Grzegorz Miętus has died at the age of 33. The Polish Ski Association confirmed the news on 4 July 2026, calling it a very sad day for the sport.

Grzegorz Miętus, a former Polish ski jumper who later worked as a base coach for the junior national team, has died at 33. The Polish Ski Association (PZN) announced the death on 4 July 2026. The cause of death is not yet known, and relevant services are investigating.

Career on the hill
Miętus competed in the World Cup during the 2009/10 season, scoring points twice: a 22nd place in Klingenthal on 3 February 2010 and a further points finish in Willingen. He made his elite debut on 22 January 2010 at the Wielka Krokiew in Zakopane, placing 48th. His personal best of 137.5 metres was set on the Vogtland Arena in Klingenthal on 3 October 2009.
At the junior level, he won a team bronze medal at the 2009 Junior World Championships in Szczyrbskie Pleso alongside Maciej Kot, Jakub Kot and Andrzej Zapotoczny. He also claimed a Polish championship medal on plastic in 2009.
Coaching and family
After his competitive career, Miętus became a coach within the PZN structures and at AZS Zakopane. Before the current season he was assigned to the junior group in Zakopane. He was the younger brother of Krzysztof Miętus, who serves as an assistant to national team head coach Maciej Maciusiak.
