San Antonio mayor calls for cancellation of Kanye West's July 4 concert at Alamodome
San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones called for the cancellation of Kanye West's July 4 concert at the Alamodome, citing his history of antisemitic remarks and hate speech. Her statement follows similar pushback from Florida Senator Rick Scott and cancellations in Europe.
Mayor’s call
San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones wrote on social media Saturday that she supports canceling Ye’s July 4 concert at the Alamodome, a city-funded venue that can hold more than 70,000 fans in an in-the-round configuration.
She added that standing up to antisemitism was exactly what it takes to achieve a more perfect union. Tickets for the show, priced from $127.50 to $1,461.25 for a front-row experience, remained on sale through Ticketmaster as of Sunday.Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome -- not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation’s 250th birthday.
Widespread opposition
Jones’s statement follows a string of canceled performances across Europe and the United States. Last month, Italian officials scrapped a July show over security concerns and complaints from Jewish leaders. In April, the British government barred Ye from entering the country, leading to the cancellation of London’s Wireless Festival. Polish authorities canceled a June concert; the nation’s culture minister wrote that “in a country scarred by the history of the Holocaust, we cannot pretend that this is just entertainment.” A planned show in Marseille fell apart after France’s interior ministry examined options to block it, and a Prague venue pulled out earlier this month. In Florida, Republican Senator Rick Scott urged the Tampa Sports Authority to cancel two concerts scheduled for June 26 and 28.
Kanye West’s consistent antisemitic attacks are an affront to the values of the people of the Hillsborough community.
Remaining tour dates
Despite the cancellations, Ye has performed this year in Mexico City, Los Angeles, Turkey, the Netherlands and Georgia. The remainder of his summer mini tour includes stops in Tirana (July 11), Madrid (July 30), the Algarve (Aug. 7) and two homecoming shows in Chicago (Sept. 3-4).

Apology and fallout
In January, Ye published a full-page advertisement in The Wall Street Journal apologizing for years of antisemitic outbursts. He attributed them to a four-month manic episode stemming from untreated bipolar disorder, during which he sold T-shirts bearing swastikas and called himself a Nazi. He wrote that he was “deeply mortified” and committed to treatment. The apology followed a 2023 apology he later recanted in 2025. Many European officials have said the latest apology was insufficient.
