Branch specialists ordered the precautionary shutdown after identifying improvised electrical installations placed by unidentified individuals inside the Turdaș railway tunnel. Rail managers halted access across the entire sector to eliminate operational risks while security and technical verifications took place. The measure affected transit along both tracks of the intercity corridor.

Given the nature of the identified elements and the need to eliminate any risk to the safety of rail traffic, train access to the respective area was halted until the situation is clarified and verifications are completed.

Law enforcement authorities and specialized railway personnel mobilized to the Turdaș tunnel to secure the perimeter and conduct formal inquiries. Police officers opened an investigation to determine how the electrical devices were placed in the tunnel and to identify the individuals responsible for the unauthorized installation. The incident in Hunedoara County took place 11 days after an earlier case of intentional track obstruction recorded on 12 August 2026 between Constanța and Mangalia. During that incident, railway employees discovered three sleepers, a pile of tree branches, and a concrete milestone placed deliberately over the rails. Maintenance crews identified the items at three separate locations along track II before the passenger train scheduled to leave Mangalia for Constanța at 12:40 approached. Railway workers cleared all objects from the line before the train arrived at the section. The intervention ensured that coastal passenger traffic continued without cancellations or operational delays.

Safety warnings on railway tampering

Following the discovery in the Turdaș tunnel, CFR SA issued a formal warning regarding unauthorized interference with national rail infrastructure. The company emphasized that tampering with equipment or entering designated railway safety perimeters creates severe risks for passenger services, train personnel, and track workers. Law enforcement officers and railway technicians continue their joint investigation on the Simeria to Orăștie sector. Technical teams must complete their full assessment before CFR SA authorizes the resumption of regular train traffic.
