Romania under red, orange and yellow heatwave warnings as temperatures set to hit 38°C

The National Meteorological Administration issued warnings for August 1-3, with maximum temperatures reaching 37–38°C and tropical nights across several regions.

Several counties in western and northern Romania are under red, orange, and yellow heat warnings as a heatwave intensifies. On Saturday, August 1, temperatures are expected to reach 33–37°C in the south and west of Oltenia, southern Banat, most of Transilvania, and the northern half of Moldova, with the heat-humidity index (ITU) locally exceeding 80 units. An orange warning covers Timiș, Arad, Bihor, Satu Mare, Sălaj, and Maramureș counties, where maximums could hit 38°C in the Western Plain and nighttime lows of 20–24°C. On Sunday, August 2, an extended yellow warning continues for similar zones, plus an orange alert for Timiș, Hunedoara, Alba, Mureș, and Cluj counties. The heat and high humidity will create dangerous conditions, the agency warned.
