Showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds forecast for Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein through the weekend
The German Weather Service forecasts a stretch of changeable weather for Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, with showers, thunderstorms and fresh winds persisting from Wednesday into the weekend.
Residents of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein should prepare for several days of unsettled weather, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). A mix of sunshine, clouds, showers and thunderstorms is expected to dominate the forecast through Friday, with temperatures remaining cool for mid-June.
Midweek showers and storms
Wednesday will see a mix of sun and clouds, with showers and thunderstorms spreading from north to south as the day progresses. Temperatures will reach 17 degrees Celsius on the island of Sylt and up to 19 degrees in Hamburg. A light to moderate wind from the west to southwest will accompany the precipitation, with locally fresh gusts.
Overnight into Thursday, cloud cover will temporarily break up, though isolated showers and thunderstorms remain possible, particularly along the coasts. Temperatures will drop to 11 degrees on the islands and around 8 degrees inland.
Thursday remains unstable
Thursday will continue the pattern of changeable weather. Brief showers will move through under variable cloud cover, with isolated thunderstorms developing again in the afternoon. Highs will range from 15 degrees on Helgoland to 17 degrees in the Herzogtum Lauenburg district. Winds will be light to moderate from the southwest to west.
Rain arrives for the weekend
After a calmer night into Friday, a new band of rain will move in from the west. Friday itself will be predominantly grey and wet, with the DWD forecasting heavy cloud cover and showery, intensifying rain. Temperatures will reach 16 degrees on Helgoland and up to 18 degrees in Hamburg and Lübeck. Along the North Sea coast, winds will freshen at times, becoming strong and gusty.
