Porto prosecutors indict 12 people over fatal mall brawl and train station robbery
The Porto Regional Prosecutor's Office has charged five people over the fatal 2024 stabbing of a teenager at NorteShopping and seven youths for a violent 2025 robbery at Paredes railway station.
Fatal brawl at NorteShopping
The Porto Regional Prosecutor's Office (Procuradoria-Geral Regional do Porto) announced charges against five defendants involved in a brawl on 28 June 2024 at the NorteShopping commercial center in Matosinhos. The incident started when one of the defendants delivered an unprovoked punch to the face of a young man. A companion of the victim stepped in to defend his friend by striking the defendant back. Following this initial clash, the five defendants and two accompanying minors acted together, using their numerical superiority to trap the first victim. The group delivered multiple punches directed at the young man's face and head. Simultaneously, three defendants punched the companion, one suspect threw a chair into the victim's legs with force, and a fourth defendant landed another punch to his face.
The stabbing of Gonçalo Lima
During the confrontation inside the shopping center, one of the 16-year-old minors approached the first victim while armed with a bladed weapon described as a knife or pocket knife. The victim was already struggling under the group attack and unable to defend himself effectively when the fatal strikes occurred.
Armed with a knife-like object, without justification and gratuitously, he approached the first victim, who was having manifest difficulty defending himself from the assaults, and delivered two blows, one in the area of the heart, causing injuries that resulted in his death.
The victim, 16-year-old Gonçalo Lima from Coronado, died from the stab wounds. Following the stabbing, two of the adult defendants and one minor continued the assault, inflicting at least four kicks to Lima's head, face, and back, which caused numerous abrasions on his body.

Assault and robbery at Paredes station
In a distinct case publicized on the same day by the regional prosecutor's office, seven individuals under the age of 21 were indicted over an attack that occurred on 19 July 2025 at the Paredes train station in the Porto district. According to prosecutors, the group encountered the victim on the station platform at approximately 04:20 and coordinated an assault to rob him.
After seeing the victim at the Paredes train station, they decided by mutual agreement to physically assault him and take valuable objects that interested them and that he might have in his possession, which they did.
The seven youths launched a simultaneous assault, striking the victim with punches and kicks to his head, stomach, and ribs until he collapsed onto the platform. Even after the victim lost consciousness from the beating, the group persisted in kicking him in the head. The attackers attempted to strip the victim of a jacket valued at 120 euros, though they failed to take it, and fled after stealing his designer cap.
