Poland faces cold front on Sunday with storms and temperatures between 17°C and 25°C

Atmospheric setup and Saturday forecast

Poland will experience a transition in weather conditions across the weekend of 19 and 20 September 2026 as an Atlantic system alters regional patterns. According to the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW), northern Europe is dominated by an extensive low-pressure system centered over the Norwegian Sea, accompanied by multiple atmospheric fronts. Southern Europe remains under high pressure, while polar maritime air continues flowing into Poland from the west. Atmospheric pressure in Warsaw will stand at 1004 hPa at noon on Saturday before rising gradually. Saturday will feature sunny conditions across eastern, central, and southern regions. Maximum temperatures on Saturday will range between 18°C and 22°C across most areas, reaching 24°C in Podkarpacie and Małopolska, while coastal locations record between 17°C and 19°C. Moderate westerly and southwesterly winds will produce gusts up to 55 km/h in northern districts, 60 km/h along the Baltic Sea, and 55 km/h in the Sudetes.

Overnight shift and approaching front

Conditions will begin shifting during the night between Saturday and Sunday as cloud cover expands from the northwest. Southeastern areas will remain mostly clear with local morning fog reducing visibility to 200 meters, while northwestern districts see light showers delivering up to 10 mm of rain. Nighttime temperatures will drop to 7°C in Podhale and 9°C in southern regions, while central Poland records around 12°C. The northwest will see minimums of 16°C, with the Hel Peninsula registering 17°C. IMGW synoptician Michał Kowalczuk described the incoming shift in weekend conditions.

Saturday will be sunny, on Sunday definitely more clouds, possible rainfall and storms in the west and north of the country.

Wind speeds overnight will remain light to moderate inland, though gusts will reach 55 km/h in the Beskids, 60 km/h along the coast, and 80 km/h in the Sudetes.

Sunday temperature divide and rainfall

On Sunday, 20 September, a cold front will sweep across Poland from west to east, drawing cooler air in its wake. The front will produce widespread cloud cover and precipitation across northern and western provinces, with rainfall totals reaching 10 to 15 mm inland and up to 20 mm along the coast. Dry conditions will persist only in southern Małopolska, southern Podkarpacie, and the southern part of Lublin province. A thermal contrast will divide the country throughout the day. Northern and western cities will see cooler temperatures, with Gdańsk reaching 17°C, Poznań and Koszalin recording 18°C, and Szczecin reaching 19°C. Central and eastern cities including Warsaw and Łódź will see 19°C, while Lublin reaches 22°C. Southern regions will remain warmer, with Katowice and Kraków reaching 23°C, Zakopane reaching 20°C, and Rzeszów reaching 24°C, with regional peaks of 25°C in the southeast.

Hazardous winds and Sunday night outlook

Sunday will also bring windy conditions across the majority of Polish territory. Inland areas will experience moderate to strong southwesterly and westerly winds with gusts reaching up to 65 km/h, including gusts of 60 km/h in Warsaw. Coastal areas will register gusts up to 70 km/h, while thunderstorm cells produce localized gusts between 75 and 80 km/h. Mountain peaks will record the strongest winds, with gusts on Śnieżka reaching up to 100 km/h. During the night between Sunday and Monday, the cloud band and scattered storms will migrate toward eastern Poland, bringing additional rainfall accumulations of 10 to 15 mm. Minimum temperatures on Sunday night will fall to between 8°C and 11°C for most regions, dropping to 5°C to 8°C in foothill districts, while remaining at 12°C to 13°C along the coastline.
