Police arrest disqualified driver carrying narcotics after chase in Poznań
Poznań police detained a 29-year-old man on Friday night following a vehicle and foot pursuit from Aleja Niepodległości to Ulica Zwierzyniecka, seizing mephedrone and marijuana from his car.
Initial roadside inspection on Aleja Niepodległości
The police operation began late on Friday night, 2 October 2026, in the central district of Poznań. At approximately 23:20, patrol officers singled out a Ford Mondeo for a roadside traffic inspection along Aleja Niepodległości. As the officers initiated the routine stop and approached the vehicle, the driver abruptly decided to evade the checkpoint. The motorist accelerated into traffic, triggering an immediate pursuit by patrol units across the downtown area.
Sergeant Michał Wiśniowski of the Poznań police detailed the sudden escalation at the traffic checkpoint:
At one point during the inspection, the driver of the Ford attempted to flee. The police officers therefore initiated a pursuit after him.
Vehicle interception and foot chase on Ulica Zwierzyniecka
The vehicular chase extended across central Poznań toward the area of Ulica Zwierzyniecka. A visible police presence gathered in the area around midnight, as multiple patrol cars moved in to cut off the driver's path. Officers succeeded in bringing the Ford Mondeo to a halt along Ulica Zwierzyniecka, but the vehicle stop did not end the incident. The motorist quickly opened his door, exited the car, and attempted to flee on foot through the surrounding street. Officers pursued the man on foot and captured him in rapid fashion, apprehending the suspect only a short distance from the vehicle.

Driving disqualification and seizure of narcotics
Once the suspect was secured, officers checked his personal identification against police registry records. The verification revealed that the 29-year-old man was operating the vehicle despite holding an active, legally binding ban on driving motor vehicles. In addition to the licensing violation, officers conducted a comprehensive search of the halted Ford Mondeo. During the inspection of the vehicle, officers discovered and secured illegal narcotics, finding quantities of both mephedrone and marijuana inside.
Sergeant Michał Wiśniowski confirmed both the discovery of the narcotics and the subsequent medical procedures:
In his car, police officers also secured narcotics in the form of mephedrone and marijuana. The detained man was sober, but given the officers' suspicion that he was driving under the influence of other intoxicating substances, blood was drawn from him for further testing.
Toxicology testing and formal evidence collection
While initial checks at the scene established that the 29-year-old driver was sober in terms of alcohol, officers suspected that he was operating the vehicle under the influence of other intoxicating substances. To confirm whether narcotics were present in his bloodstream during the drive, officers arranged for a blood sample to be drawn for laboratory toxicology testing. Following the medical procedure, the 29-year-old was transported directly to a police detention facility and placed under arrest. Investigative officers in Poznań are currently gathering and securing all evidentiary material while working to clarify every circumstance of the incident.
