Sikorski urges Nawrocki to secure second permanent US military base following White House approval
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski called on President Karol Nawrocki to finalize plans with Donald Trump for a US land forces base after the White House indicated political approval.
Diplomatic push for a second base
Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski called on President Karol Nawrocki on 3 October 2026 to engage United States leadership to finalize the establishment of a second permanent American military base in Poland. Sikorski addressed the issue during a visit to Kraków, where he appeared in support of presidential candidate Monika Piątkowska. His statements responded to remarks from Marcin Przydacz, the head of the presidential International Policy Bureau, who declared that the White House had given a political green light for the base. Przydacz noted that formal execution must still be finalized by the United States Department of Defense and the Polish Ministry of National Defence.
Sikorski asserted that the Polish Council of Ministers had fulfilled all necessary executive prerequisites by formally notifying Washington that Poland is prepared to host and finance the military installation.
Here, the president has the main, and essentially the only state task: to use his alleged closeness with Donald Trump to enforce this decision, because the government has done its part, meaning it sent a Council of Ministers resolution to the American authorities stating that we are ready to host this base and pay for it.
Resolution and negotiations with Washington
The formal initiative for the new military installation began in June 2026, when the Polish Council of Ministers passed an official resolution outlining actions to secure a permanent United States land forces base. That resolution authorized the Polish minister of national defence to conduct bilateral consultations with Washington concerning candidate locations, base infrastructure requirements, and project costs. Poland currently hosts one permanent American military facility, the Aegis Ashore missile defence site in Redzikowo, which became operational in 2024 under the government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Sikorski noted that specialized site selection commissions have already inspected potential domestic locations for the planned land army facilities.

Sikorski expressed hope that even if the United States decides to scale back its aggregate troop numbers across the European continent, American deployments in Poland will expand based on geographic position and current threat assessments.
We want a second base, this time for United States land forces; there have already been commissions regarding the selection of the right location.
Response to Russian airspace violations
During his appearance in Kraków, Sikorski also addressed the Saturday incursion of five Russian aerial attack assets into Moldovan airspace. Sikorski assessed that these drone incursions connect directly to efforts by Russian President Vladimir Putin to sever Ukraine from foreign military supplies. He maintained that Moldova's non-membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization does not alter the strategic risk, adding that Russian leadership operates without inhibitions regarding pressure on NATO members as well.
Sikorski argued that increased threats from Moscow must be met with stronger foreign assistance for Kyiv rather than hesitation.
Putin escalates because he thinks we will be afraid of him, because he thinks he will succeed in intimidating us. Let us not be intimidated, and let us not listen, also here in Poland, to Russian shills and their useful idiots.
