Polish junior handball player Aleksander Sławiński hospitalised after night incident; family reports beating, police say fall
Aleksander Sławiński, a junior international handball player, is in hospital after an incident in Międzyzdroje during the night of 9–10 July. The Polish Handball Association, citing the family, says he was beaten; local police counter that the evidence points to an accidental fall, not an assault.
What happened in Międzyzdroje
The incident occurred during the night of 9–10 July 2026 in the seaside town of Międzyzdroje. Aleksander Sławiński, a player from KPR Gryfino and a student at the Polish Handball Association’s sports school in Kielce, was staying there with his family while preparing for the upcoming U18 men’s European Championship. According to the version relayed by his family through the Polish Handball Association (ZPRP), he was severely beaten and had to be hospitalised on 10 July.
Związek Piłki Ręcznej w Polsce w głębokim szoku i z wielkim smutkiem przyjął przekazaną przez rodzinę zawodnika informację o dotkliwym pobiciu reprezentanta Polski juniorów Aleksandra Sławińskiego.
Police dispute the beating account
However, police in Kamień Pomorski contradicted that narrative the same day. Aspirant Izabela Kik told RMF FM that officers had interviewed witnesses and secured evidence, and the findings so far rule out the involvement of third parties. “It appears the boy fell,” she said. The force is treating the case as an accident, not a criminal assault, pending further investigation. The ZPRP statement had appealed for anyone with information to contact the authorities.
Policjanci wykluczają udział osób trzecich w tym zdarzeniu.
Medical condition and tournament setback
Sławiński’s condition is described as serious but stable, and his life is no longer in danger. The injuries, however, are severe enough that he will not be able to join the national junior team’s training camp, which begins on 15 July. As a result, he will miss the European U18 men’s championship scheduled for the turn of the month. The ZPRP noted that the consequences of the incident dash the player’s hopes of taking part in the continental tournament.

Institutional response
The Polish Handball Association declared it would provide all possible help to the player and expressed support for him and his family. Meanwhile, the police continue to examine the circumstances, and the ZPRP has urged anyone with information to come forward.
