PIT-RADWAR begins 90 million PLN expansion of Czernica radar and defense facility
The Polish defense contractor signed a 21 million PLN construction deal to modernize its Lower Silesia site, boosting production of radar components and the SAN counter-drone system.
Expansion contract signed in Czernica
Polish defense manufacturer PIT-RADWAR, a subsidiary of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), signed an agreement on 2 October 2026 to begin the expansion of its production site in Czernica, Lower Silesia. The initial contract with contractor Grupa KDM covers design and construction works valued at nearly 21 million PLN net. Total investment in the Czernica branch is scheduled to reach approximately 90 million PLN once the procurement and installation of specialized manufacturing equipment are completed. The initiative builds upon existing infrastructure rather than constructing an entirely new facility, following structural commitments made during the corporate merger of PIT-RADWAR and WZŁ nr 2.

Equipment and the SAN anti-drone system
The modernization program will introduce more than 100 new machines and automated systems to the facility. This equipment will allow Czernica to produce specialized military communication suites, radar subassemblies, and radiolocation hardware. The site is directly tied to the SAN counter-drone defense program, which forms the lowest layer of Poland's air defense architecture designed to neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles of all classes. During the signing ceremony, military officials presented Legwan all-terrain vehicles parked outside the facility, which will serve as base platforms for the integrated communication and counter-drone systems.
Adam Zasada, a board member of PIT-RADWAR, explained the technical scope of the project:
We are not building a new factory. We are supplementing the competencies we lack. We are building and modernizing halls so that we can place new equipment in them. This is over one hundred different modern, robotic machines and devices. We did not have such competencies in Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa until now.
Operational role in domestic and allied defense
Equipment manufactured in Czernica supplies both the Polish Armed Forces and NATO allied militaries. The expansion aims to accelerate delivery timelines amid growing order volumes for tactical communications, cable harnesses, and sensor networks. PIT-RADWAR management stated that upgraded production cycles will substantially increase output capacity at the facility.
Arkadiusz Miszuk, president of PIT-RADWAR, described the operational importance of the site:
Communications are in a way the bloodstream for every army. This is an extremely important point. PIT-RADWAR specializes in the production of radar systems and radiolocation systems. Today it participates in the SAN program.
Employment growth and broader PGZ investment
The Czernica branch currently employs approximately 170 workers, with staff numbers scheduled to rise to nearly 270 as new production lines open, representing a headcount increase of nearly 50%. Across Lower Silesia, PGZ employs 1,700 people and works alongside nearly 900 local partner entities. Regional PGZ staffing is projected to surpass 2,000 employees by the end of next year.

PGZ is financing broad manufacturing upgrades across Poland, backed by more than 9 billion PLN from the state budget. The defense group has signed contracts exceeding 100 billion PLN under the European SAFE program framework, and had directed over 300 million PLN toward capital investments by July 2026.
