Firefighting forces deployed
A large-scale operation was launched. On the ground, 62 firefighters worked with three forest commando teams of the 9th EMODE, 18 fire engines and volunteers. From the air, seven aircraft and two helicopters dropped water, while water tankers from the Peloponnese Region supported the effort. Winds gusting up to 7 Beaufort and the rugged terrain made the work extremely difficult.
Rapid recession achieved
Thanks to the immediate and coordinated intervention, the fire was already in recession within 45 minutes of its outbreak, according to the Fire Service. The rapid deployment of both ground and aerial assets was credited with preventing further spread.
Investigation and conditions
The Corinthia Arson Crime Investigation Unit is examining the cause of the fire. Operations continued under a very high fire-risk index, with strong winds persisting throughout the afternoon.
