Paramount names Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz as co-head ahead of $110 billion Warner Bros. deal
Ynon Kreiz will lead integration and operations starting 5 October 2026, while David Ellison oversees strategy and creative direction for the merged studio.
Executive division at Paramount
Paramount announced the appointment of Mattel chief executive Ynon Kreiz to its top management as co-chief executive alongside current leader David Ellison. Kreiz will officially start his new role on 5 October 2026, just ahead of the planned merger completion between the two studio corporations. Under the dual leadership model, Ellison will focus on corporate strategy, creative direction, and technology development. Ellison had previously worked successfully as an independent film producer before stepping into the chief executive role at Paramount. Kreiz is assigned to lead daily business operations and directly manage the complex corporate integration of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery.
Cost targets and restructuring plans
The management reorganization occurs as Paramount prepares for wide structural changes across its combined entertainment divisions. Paramount leadership previously presented financial projections to investors targeting $6 billion in annual cost savings within three years of the takeover. The consolidation of the two studio organizations is expected to result in the elimination of several thousand jobs across overlapping corporate functions. Kreiz brings direct experience with organizational restructuring from his tenure at Mattel, where he enacted turnaround measures that included corporate workforce cuts. The leadership team intends to use these efficiency measures to manage the scale of the combined studio network.

Legal settlement and merger terms
Paramount is scheduled to close its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on 6 October 2026, completing a transaction valued at more than $110 billion. The closing follows the decision by California and several other US states to drop their legal challenges against the transaction after negotiating a formal settlement. As part of the agreed terms, Paramount committed to increasing investment in film production and shooting activities within the United States over the next five years. The company also pledged to retain and maintain the physical studio lots of both companies in Los Angeles rather than closing or consolidating either property. The merger gives Paramount greater competitive scale in an industry where it had previously operated as a relatively smaller participant.
Corporate background and Mattel track record
The Ellison family, led by technology billionaire Larry Ellison, acquired Paramount roughly one year ago and installed David Ellison as chief executive. The acquisition brings significant assets into the group, including the cable news network CNN, whose future generated attention throughout transaction debates due to its critical coverage of US President Donald Trump. Kreiz gained his footing in the Hollywood film industry through the commercial performance of the Barbie movie roughly three years prior. On that project, Kreiz granted director Greta Gerwig creative autonomy, even as the script portrayed Mattel executives as greedy corporate figures in suits. The film became a summer 2023 box office success and cultural phenomenon with its feminist themes, briefly driving a sharp increase in doll sales and prompting Kreiz to approve further movie projects centered around Mattel toy brands.
