Albanese noted that while the research project ventured into restricted domains, OpenAI must implement stricter protocols to prevent autonomous systems from probing outside authorized boundaries.

AI containment and safety debates

The disclosure coincided with high-level meetings at the United Nations focused on artificial intelligence governance and risk. During a UN Security Council session on artificial intelligence on 23 September 2026, Altman and other technology executives acknowledged containment risks and urged caution in model deployment.
