
Berlin drug arrest turns violent as suspect bites police officer during escape attempt
A 42-year-old man bit a police officer on the upper body during a suspected drug deal arrest in Berlin-Schmargendorf early Saturday. The officer was hospitalized with bite wounds and abrasions.
The incident
In the early hours of Saturday, 5 July 2026, police officers in Berlin-Schmargendorf observed a suspected drug transaction on Mecklenburgische Straße. A 35-year-old man left his car and walked toward Heidelberger Platz, where he handed something to a 42-year-old man. Officers moved in to make arrests.
Arrest and resistance
The 35-year-old was detained at his vehicle without incident. A search of the car uncovered cash, a mobile phone, and several small packages containing substances believed to be cocaine and cannabis. When officers attempted to stop the 42-year-old, he tried to flee. He struck one officer and bit him on the upper body before additional police arrived to subdue him. The 42-year-old was found to be carrying several small bags of cannabis.

Injuries and aftermath
The bitten officer sustained bite wounds to the upper body, along with abrasions on the head and arms. He was unable to continue his shift and received hospital treatment. The 42-year-old suspect also suffered minor injuries during the arrest and was taken to a clinic. The 35-year-old was brought before a duty court later on Saturday, which issued an arrest warrant. The vehicle and all seized items were confiscated.
