Benjamin Netanyahu Accuses New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani of Supporting Hamas

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video broadside against New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday, accusing him of supporting Hamas and inciting riots against Jewish residents. The response followed clips released by CNN from an interview with Christiane Amanpour, in which Mamdani called Netanyahu a war criminal and called on the federal government to arrest him when he arrives in New York later this week to address the United Nations General Assembly.

Speaking at an unrelated news conference on Tuesday morning, Mamdani rejected the prime minister's claims.

We all know that what the prime minister has said in that video is not true.

Mamdani, New York's first Muslim mayor and a supporter of Palestinian rights, previously condemned Hamas as a terrorist organization and described its October 7, 2023 attack on Israel as a war crime. While antisemitic hate crimes have risen in the city since the start of the conflict, New York recorded no riots targeting Jewish residents during Mamdani's mayoral administration or his tenure in the State Assembly. Netanyahu remains subject to an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court over war crimes allegations in Gaza, which he denies.
