
Wildfire breaks out in Nafpaktos, Greece, as aerial water drops hampered by power lines
A wildfire broke out in Kato Mamoulada, Nafpaktos, shortly after 13:30 on Saturday. 50 firefighters, 14 vehicles, two aircraft and a helicopter are battling the flames, but high-voltage cables are complicating aerial efforts.
Fire starts in western Greece
A wildfire erupted in a rural-forest area near Kato Mamoulada, Nafpaktos, in the Aetolia-Acarnania region on Saturday, 27 June 2026, just after 13:30 local time. The General Secretariat for Civil Protection immediately mobilised resources, and at the time of initial reports no homes or infrastructure were in danger.
Response and aerial difficulties
A force of 50 firefighters, including two pedestrian units from the 6th Special Disaster Response Unit (EMODE), is on scene with 14 vehicles. Two firefighting aircraft and one helicopter have been deployed, but their water drops are being hindered by high-voltage power cables crossing the area. Municipal water tankers are also assisting.

Coordination and real-time monitoring
The National Coordination Centre for Operations and Crisis Management (ESKEDIK) is receiving continuous live imagery from a drone equipped with optical and thermal cameras, giving incident commanders an overhead view throughout the operation.
Arson investigation under way
An investigative team from the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes of Aetolia-Acarnania has already arrived at the fire zone. Their task is to determine the cause of the fire, although no preliminary findings have been released.
