A large fire broke out at a production and service hall in Mszana Dolna, Lesser Poland, on Saturday afternoon. The blaze, which fully engulfed a vehicle inspection station, sent a thick black smoke column visible for kilometres and forced authorities to warn residents to remain inside.
What happened
A fire erupted shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, 27 June at a hall at Orkana Street in Mszana Dolna (Limanowa County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship). The building, roughly 40 by 20 metres, housed a vehicle diagnostic station and was completely consumed by flames, according to fire service spokesman Captain Hubert Ciepły. Specialised teams were also mobilised: a chemical rescue group from Kraków to monitor air quality, a medical team to safeguard the rescuers, a road group to manage local disruptions, and a drone-equipped unit for aerial assessment of the fire.
Dangers and public warnings
Dense black smoke rose over the town and was visible from several kilometres away. The fire service issued an urgent alert for residents, appealing to them to keep windows shut and stay indoors to avoid inhaling toxic fumes. Local media also reported that residents heard sounds of explosions from the site.
We appeal to residents not to open windows and not to leave their homes, so as not to inhale the dangerous smoke coming from the fire.
Road traffic near Orkana Street was also disrupted. The extinguishing action was still underway as the fire continued to burn, with crews working to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring buildings, including the nearby carpentry workshop.
