
Corentin Moutet fined $40,000 after swearing seven times in live BBC interview at Queen's Club
The French player repeated the expletive in under a minute after being asked to stop; he says it was a joke and is appealing the ATP sanction.
The interview
On Tuesday, after a three-set win over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Moutet was asked by BBC’s Jenny Drummond about facing a 142 mph serve. He responded with an expletive, then repeated it three more times before being warned. He then said it three more times, leading Drummond to cut the interview. Presenter Clare Balding apologised to viewers.

The sanction
The ATP fined Moutet $40,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct, nearly the entire £33,000 (about $43,000) he earned for reaching the second round. The player is appealing.

Reaction
Davis Cup captain Leon Smith called the punishment fair, noting the repeated offence.
It's a fair punishment, isn't it?... You can have a slip. But not seven times! And I think I've heard he's appealed the decision, but good luck with that.
Moutet’s disciplinary record
The 27-year-old world No. 36 was disqualified from Adelaide in 2022 for swearing at an umpire, fined after a scuffle with Adrian Andreev later that year, and expelled from the French tennis federation in November 2022 for repeated misconduct. At Queen’s he went on to lose to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the last 16.
