Calabria teenager found safe in abandoned house after disappearing on middle-school exam day
Nicoletta Anamaria Domide, 14, left home for her middle-school exam on Friday morning but never entered the building, triggering a search that involved carabinieri, traffic and railway police, and a mayor's social-media appeal. Hours later, officers found her in good health inside an abandoned house on the outskirts of Isola Capo Rizzuto.
Disappearance on exam day
Nicoletta Anamaria Domide, 14, left home in Isola Capo Rizzuto (Calabria) on the morning of 13 June 2026 to take her middle-school exam, the terza media. She arrived at the school building but left without entering. When she failed to return home, her parents reported her missing to the local carabinieri.
Public appeal and search
Mayor Maria Grazia Vittimberga posted a plea on Facebook, asking residents to help find the girl.
People of Isola and the province of Crotone, we need everyone's help. This morning she left to take her middle-school exams, arrived at school and then left without returning home. Her parents are searching everywhere but have no news. Anyone who saw her or has useful information should contact 112 or me.
The search involved carabinieri of the Crotone Company, personnel from the Questura of Crotone, traffic police, and railway police. The case was also referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Crotone and the Juvenile Court of Catanzaro, and a provincial search plan was activated.
Safe discovery
The girl was found in an abandoned house on the outskirts of Isola Capo Rizzuto, near Parco Insiti, in the evening. Carabinieri reported she was in good physical condition. She was taken to hospital for routine checks after meeting her grandmother at the carabinieri station.
Investigation into motives
According to Il Messaggero, the disappearance was voluntary. Authorities are investigating how she spent the day after leaving school and the reasons for her decision to leave.
