Haaland, Kane and Messi headline World Cup quarter-finals as Norway face England and Argentina take on Switzerland
Norway take on England Saturday with a first semi-final berth at stake, while Argentina face debutant quarter-finalists Switzerland early Sunday in Kansas City after Spain beat Belgium 2-1 to advance.
Spain became the first team to reach the semi-finals after a 2-1 win over Belgium on Friday. Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring in the 30th minute, Charles De Ketelaere equalised before half-time, then Mikel Merino struck late to send La Roja through.
In the remaining quarter-final ties, Norway face England on Saturday at 23:00. Erling Haaland's side are appearing in the last eight for the first time and are chasing a maiden semi-final. England, favourites with Harry Kane leading the line, aim for a first World Cup title since 1966.
Argentina meet Switzerland in the early hours of Sunday at 3:00 in Kansas City. The Swiss have already achieved their best-ever World Cup run by reaching the quarter-finals. Lionel Messi's Argentina have navigated the tournament narrowly so far and will be looking for a more convincing performance.
