Juventus appoints Frederic Massara as Chief Football Officer in management reshuffle
Former AC Milan and Roma sporting director Frederic Massara has been named Juventus' new Chief Football Officer, reporting directly to CEO Giovanni Carnevali, as the club overhauls its management structure ahead of the new season.
New leadership structure
Juventus has appointed Frederic Massara as its new Chief Football Officer, the club announced on 7 July. Massara, who previously held sporting director roles at AC Milan and AS Roma, will report directly to CEO and Director General Giovanni Carnevali. The move is part of a broader reorganization of the club's management following Carnevali's own appointment, which replaced Damien Comolli.
I am convinced we are building a solid, competent and cohesive structure, capable of supporting our ambitions in the present and the future.
Massara's operational role
Massara will oversee the men's football area, working in close synergy with Sporting Director Marco Ottolini. The club statement said he will be responsible for guiding the management and development of the sporting area, contributing to the definition and implementation of strategies and projects. Italian media describe his role as operational at every level, acting as a link between the management and coach Luciano Spalletti's squad, with whom he shares a long-standing relationship of mutual respect.
His expertise and deep knowledge of football represent an added value and integrate perfectly with the professional skills already present within the Club's organizational structure.
Chiellini's institutional shift
Giorgio Chiellini, the former Juventus defender, has been named Chief Club Affairs Officer. In this role, he will strengthen the club's ability to engage with institutions, strategic stakeholders, and sports organizations in Italy and globally. Some reports also indicate he will continue as Director of Football Strategy, focusing on marketing and commercial aspects. The reshuffle creates what Italian outlet Fanpage calls a "new triad" of Carnevali, Massara, and Chiellini, echoing past leadership trios at the club.
Departures and upcoming season
François Modesto is set to leave his position as part of the changes. The reorganization comes just a week before the team's pre-season gathering, scheduled for 13 July. Massara's arrival had been anticipated for years; he was close to joining a year ago before Comolli opted for other candidates. Now, with Carnevali at the helm, the club aims to rebuild credibility on and off the pitch after the turmoil of the 2022-2023 board resignations.
