Kamil Majchrzak wins first ATP title in Den Bosch, hours later Katarzyna Kawa takes WTA 125 in Modena after saving match point
Kamil Majchrzak claimed his maiden ATP title in 's-Hertogenbosch and Katarzyna Kawa followed hours later with a dramatic WTA 125 victory in Modena, capping a remarkable day for Polish tennis.
Sunday, 14 June 2026, delivered a pair of trophies for Polish tennis within hours of each other. In the afternoon, Kamil Majchrzak secured his first career main-circuit ATP title at the ATP 250 event in 's-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch), defeating Alex de Minaur in three sets. During the same tournament week he also took out Felix Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev.
The Modena final
Later that evening, 33-year-old Katarzyna Kawa faced Italy's Lucia Bronzetti in the final of the WTA 125 Challenger in Modena. Bronzetti — a two-time world champion with Italy's BJK Cup team — pushed the contest to a deciding set after dropping the opener 6-1. Kawa eventually prevailed 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(6), saving a match point along the way. It is her second career singles title at this level, following a WTA 125 triumph in Huzhou earlier in May.
A title with a modest cheque
Despite the sporting achievement, tournament organisers disclosed that the winner's prize money in Modena amounts to only 13,480 euros gross. The disparity between lower-tier and marquee events was highlighted by the recent Roland Garros run of compatriot Maja Chwalińska, who became the first player in the Open Era to navigate all stages of the Paris major — from qualifying through to the final — and received a much larger payday.
Players' perspective on earnings
Kawa herself has previously spoken about the financial strain of competing outside the Grand Slam circuit.
Not making it into Grand Slam tournaments means you have to keep putting money in, and it stops being fun. That's the truth — how many years can you keep searching and saving?
Broader context for Polish tennis
The double triumph arrives only days after Maja Chwalińska's historic Roland Garros runner-up finish, giving Polish fans a sustained run of success across the men's and women's games. Majchrzak's title marks his long-awaited breakthrough on the ATP Tour, while Kawa's victory reinforces her consistency on the WTA 125 circuit.
