Luis de Javier joins 'Maestros de la Costura Celebrity' as the talent show returns with 12 celebrity contestants
RTVE premieres the second celebrity edition of its sewing competition on 29 June, introducing designer Luis de Javier to the jury and a dozen well-known faces to the workroom.
The second edition of 'Maestros de la Costura Celebrity' (Masters of Sewing Celebrity) launched on La 1 on Monday, 29 June, immediately following 'La Revuelta'. A second episode is already scheduled for Wednesday, 1 July. Produced by RTVE in collaboration with Shine Iberia (Banijay Iberia), the season features twelve celebrity apprentices competing over ten programmes for the crystal mannequin trophy and a €50,000 prize to be donated to a charity of the winner's choice.
A new face on the panel
Luis de Javier, the 29-year-old Catalan designer, joins veterans Lorenzo Caprile and María Escoté on the judging panel, replacing Palomo Spain. De Javier, born in Sitges in 1996, studied at IED Barcelona and later in London, where he worked with Vivienne Westwood and Gareth Pugh under the mentorship of Riccardo Tisci. He founded his own label in 2020 and has since dressed global music stars including Rosalía (a 3D-printed corset for the 'Motomami' cover), Beyoncé (a bullfighting-inspired piece for 'Renaissance'), Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Doja Cat, and Cher, who wore one of his designs at the 2026 Grammys. In a visit to 'La Revuelta', de Javier said the programme "has restored my enthusiasm for fashion" at a moment when he had considered stepping away from the industry.
The celebrity apprentices
Among the twelve contestants is Jazz Vilá, a 41-year-old actor, director and playwright born in Havana in 1984. Vilá, who learned to sew by himself at 15 and has designed costumes for his own theatre productions, is known to Spanish audiences through series such as 'Paquita Salas' and 'Mariliendre'. He is joined by Jaydy Michel, Mario Vaquerizo, Beatriz Luengo, Josie, Blanca Paloma, Pau Echániz, Silvia Marty, Pepón Nieto, Mariola Fuentes, and twins Jorge and Edu Román. The season is billed as an edition of reunions: actresses Beatriz Luengo and Silvia Marty work together again, and former judge Palomo Spain returns to the workshop as a special guest.
New workshop twists
Two fresh dynamics shape the competition. A 'secret workshop' allows an undisclosed observer to monitor the contestants' daily performance, and a hidden 'thimble of the second chance' grants its bearer immunity from elimination as long as they keep the advantage secret from fellow competitors.
Challenges and guests
Tasks will blend traditional techniques with cutting-edge methods. Contestants face AI-assisted design exercises to reinterpret Spanish culture, 3D-printed garment components, and sustainability-focused briefs using reclaimed textiles, cannabis-derived fabrics, and even edible materials from the food sector. Guest designers and stylists visiting the workshop include Hannibal Laguna, Isabel Sanchís, Juan Vidal, Juana Martín, ACROMATYX, and the American child prodigy Max Alexander. Other invited figures range from models Antonia Dell'Atte and Naty Abascal, to content creator Pelayo Díaz, musical duo Azúcar Moreno, athlete Ana Peleteiro, writer Boris Izaguirre, comedian Lalachus, fashion editor Natalia Bengoechea, and Marvel illustrator Salva Espín. Presenter Raquel Sánchez Silva returns as host, showcasing creations by Spanish designers throughout the galas.
