Madonna drops heavy hint she will headline Glastonbury 2027 in BBC interview with Graham Norton
The pop icon told Graham Norton she plans 'something bigger' than promo tours next summer, with the presenter immediately linking the tease to the Worthy Farm festival.
The interview
Madonna sat down with Graham Norton for an hour-long BBC One special, released on 26 June, to discuss her forthcoming album Confessions II and a career that began on the 1980s New York club scene. The conversation, filmed at London's Koko venue in May, ranged from her first UK gig there in 1983 to her grief over her brother Christopher's death in 2024.
I was a dancer. Dancing is in my DNA. It just creates community, and sometimes relationships.
The record itself features a duet with her daughter Lola addressing strains in their relationship, and a track titled Fragile that mourns Christopher, who died of cancer.
The Glastonbury hint
Towards the end of the interview, Norton asked if Madonna would tour the new album. She confirmed she would do promo tours, then added that next summer she has 'something bigger' planned. Norton appeared to immediately grasp the implication.
Oh! Oh, OK… That sounds really exciting and good and I think I know what you're talking about. Is it in this country?
Madonna teased him, replying 'It could be' and refusing to elaborate further.
The pursuit of a booking
Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has long wanted Madonna to play the festival. After seeing the star perform at London's O2 Arena, Eavis said she felt compelled to post about it and was surprised it became such big news. However, The Independent previously reported that talks with Madonna's team broke down because the festival could not cover the costs of transporting the elaborate Celebration Tour stage to Worthy Farm.
Other revelations
The interview also yielded lighter moments. Madonna admitted she was 'jealous of Kylie' Minogue, and the Guardian review notes that Minogue herself made a cameo, serving drinks during the taping. Madonna also remarked that 'nobody ever wants to dance with me' because she gets carried away and irritates people.
I heard this phrase a long time ago that the definition of being an adult is the ability to delay gratification.
