Woman found dead in Lubsko, Poland; sought man's body also discovered in forest
Police in western Poland are investigating the deaths of two people after the body of a woman was discovered in Lubsko on June 13. A man whose car was the subject of a public appeal was later found dead in a nearby forest.
Woman's body found
On 13 June 2026, the body of an older woman was discovered in Lubsko, a town in Żary county. Police in Żary launched an investigation and, at first, media reports described the incident as a murder. However, officers quickly adopted a more cautious line, declining to confirm the cause of death or whether foul play was involved. "At this stage, we cannot confirm that a murder took place. I can only say that the body of a woman was found and that investigative actions are underway to clarify the circumstances of her death," said junior aspirant Żaneta Kumoś, spokesperson for the Żary County Police, to Fakt.
Public appeal for a car and driver
In connection with the case, investigators began searching for a man who, according to an official statement, "may have information relating to the circumstances of the woman's death." The police released a photograph and detailed description of a silver 2002 Volkswagen Polo hatchback, registration number FZ 4397S, and asked anyone who might know the vehicle's whereabouts to call designated numbers. "All persons who may have information about the location of the vehicle are asked to contact us," the appeal read.

A second body is discovered
The search did not last long. On 14 June, police confirmed that the body of the man they had been seeking had been found in a forested area near Lubsko. No details about the circumstances of his death were immediately released. "Investigative actions are being conducted under the supervision of a prosecutor. At this stage, we cannot provide more information," Kumoś said.
Questions remain
It is still not known what relationship, if any, the man had with the deceased woman. Police have not said whether the two deaths are directly linked and stress that it is too early to determine the nature of the incident. Answers are expected to come from ongoing examinations and the results of ordered tests.
