Charles Leclerc wins chaotic British Grand Prix as Kimi Antonelli's championship lead is slashed
Charles Leclerc claimed his first Formula 1 win since 2024 at a chaotic British Grand Prix, while championship leader Kimi Antonelli's technical failure cost him points and tightened the title race.
A race defined by chaos
The British Grand Prix at Silverstone was marked by a series of technical failures and tactical misjudgments. Charles Leclerc took full advantage, piloting his Ferrari to a first win since the 2024 season. The Monegasque driver had been winless for nearly two seasons, but a defect on championship leader Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes removed his main rival from contention early. Antonelli, who had led the standings, saw his car sustain damage and was forced to finish 16th, scoring no points.
Ferrari near-miss and Hamilton error
Leclerc's teammate Lewis Hamilton was on track for a Ferrari one-two finish until a strategic error in the final stages of the race handed second place to George Russell. The error cost Hamilton a stronger result at his home race and allowed Russell to close the gap in the championship fight. Hamilton's third place maintained his presence in the title race, but the missed opportunity was palpable for the local favourite.
Championship fight tightens
Antonelli's failure to score means his lead has been cut to just 25 points over Russell, with Hamilton a further 7 points adrift. The Italian had built a cushion over the season, but Silverstone has thrown the championship wide open. With several races still to go, the battle is now far from settled.

Hülkenberg's disappointment
Nico Hülkenberg, driving for Audi, retired from the race prematurely. The German driver's early exit added to a challenging season for the team. George Russell's second place represented a strong recovery for Mercedes after Antonelli's misfortune.
