Klaudia Kazimierska wins Brussels 1500m Diamond League final in world-leading 3:54.05

Victory in Brussels

Polish middle-distance runner Klaudia Kazimierska won the women's 1500 metres at the Diamond League final in Brussels on Saturday evening, clocking 3:54.05. The 25-year-old athlete, who is originally from Włocławek and trains in the United States, stayed near the back of the field during the early stages of the race. She monitored the pace behind competitors including Lorea Ibarzabal, Jessica Hull, and European champion Georgia Hunter Bell before launching her move with approximately 200 metres remaining. Kazimierska moved through the field, took the lead entering the final straight, and maintained her advantage to cross the line ahead of Kenyan world silver medalist Dorcus Ewoi (3:54.72) and Hull (3:54.73), while Hunter Bell finished fourth in 3:56.40.

Progression through 2026

The winning time in Brussels lowered the Polish national record and established the fastest time in the world for 2026, lifting Kazimierska from fifth to first on the global season list. The mark also set a meeting record in Brussels and stands as the sixth fastest time in European athletic history. It improved Kazimierska's own national record of 3:55.59, set on 23 August at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Chorzów, by more than 1.5 seconds. Earlier in the season, Kazimierska set a national mile record of 4:17.90 in Eugene, claimed double gold in the 800 metres and 1500 metres at the Polish Championships in Białystok in July, and earned a silver medal in the 1500 metres at the European Championships in Birmingham in August.

The result surprised me just as much as everyone else. I worked on many small elements, and they seem to have come together perfectly. It is the fruit of consistent work. I think further successes will follow because I am still chasing victories and titles. This race came at the perfect moment. After the European Championships, I wanted to hit a second peak of form.

Historical context and Diamond Trophy

Kazimierska became the second European woman under the age of 26 to run 1500 metres in under 3:55, a mark previously reached only by Romania's Paula Ivan with 3:53.96 at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. The victory earned Kazimierska the Diamond Trophy, increased prize money, and a wild card entry for next year's World Athletics Championships in Beijing. She is the third Polish athlete to win a Diamond Trophy, following four-time discus champion Piotr Małachowski (2010, 2014, 2015, 2016) and high jumper Mateusz Kołodziejski in 2026.

Field events and sprint results

Other Polish athletes also competed during the Brussels meeting. In the men's javelin throw, Dawid Wegner placed second with a personal best of 87.47 metres, which ranks second in Polish history behind Marcin Krukowski's 2021 national record of 89.55 metres. The javelin competition was won by Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage with a throw of 89.04 metres, while Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott took third place with 83.99 metres. In the women's 400 metres, Natalia Bukowiecka finished seventh with a time of 51.33 seconds in a race won by Dominican Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino in a meeting record of 48.64 seconds, ahead of European champion Henriette Jaeger (49.20).
