Eight Kalashnikovs seized after high-speed police chase from Alicante to Murcia
Spanish National Police arrested four men and recovered eight AK-47 rifles after a dangerous pursuit through two provinces.
Initial observation
Agents from the Organized Crime Group of the Judicial Police of the Provincial Commissioner's Office were driving on the highway connecting Alicante and Elche when they noticed a car moving at high speed and performing hazardous maneuvers. They attempted a discreet interception, but the driver detected their presence and reacted violently, accelerating and driving even more dangerously.
The high-speed chase
What followed was a frantic pursuit along various roads in Alicante province, with the suspect reaching speeds of over 150 kilometers per hour. The driver repeatedly rammed police vehicles, trying to force them off the road. One police car was hit so hard it suffered considerable material damage and could no longer continue the chase. Despite the danger to officers and other road users, the pursuit intensified.
Given the violent reaction of the driver of the suspect vehicle, a frantic chase began that extended along different roads in the province of Alicante.
Crash and escape
The chase ended in the neighboring province of Murcia when the driver lost control of the car, swerved off the road, and crashed into a crop field. He abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, evading immediate capture. Inside the car, officers found eight Kalashnikov AK-47 automatic rifles, complete with magazines, weapons classified as war-grade armament.
Investigation and arrests
Investigators identified the driver and three other men, aged between 21 and 43, all with prior police records for serious crimes. They were arrested in Alicante and San Vicente del Raspeig. The driver faces charges of illegal weapons possession, criminal group membership, traffic safety offenses, assault on law enforcement officers, and property damage. The other three are charged with weapons possession and criminal group membership. The suspects have been brought before the duty investigative courts in Alicante.
