Private wedding in Los Angeles
Actor Jim Carrey has married his long-time partner Min Ah in an intimate ceremony in Los Angeles, a representative for the 64-year-old actor confirmed on Wednesday. The marriage is the third for the Canadian-American performer, who gained international recognition for starring roles in films including Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, The Truman Show, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Min Ah, who is 32 years old, has maintained a private profile alongside Carrey for several years. The couple opted for a discreet wedding in California following a relationship that unfolded mostly away from media attention.
Public debut at the César Awards
Carrey and Min Ah were first photographed together in February 2022 as they left a charity comedy showcase organized by Judd Apatow in Los Angeles. The pair kept their relationship out of the public eye until seven months prior to their marriage, when they made their official red-carpet debut in Paris at the César Awards. At the French film ceremony, Carrey received the honorary César award for lifetime achievement across his acting career. Carrey delivered his entire acceptance speech in French, thanking his family in attendance before addressing his partner directly from the stage.
Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and forever. Thank you to my sublime partner, Min Ah. I love you, Min Ah.
Previous marriages and past skepticism
The marriage follows two previous marriages and several high-profile relationships for Carrey. In 1987, Carrey married comedy store server and actress Melissa Womer, with whom he had his daughter Jane, before the couple divorced in 1995. He married his Dumb and Dumber co-star Lauren Holly in 1996, an alliance that dissolved in divorce less than one year later. Carrey later became engaged to actress Renée Zellweger after the pair met while filming Me, Myself and Irene in 1999, though the engagement ended the following year. He subsequently dated television host Jenny McCarthy between 2005 and 2010, telling Weekend magazine in 2008 that he was happy with McCarthy but saw little reason to attempt marriage a third time.

During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show in 2014, Carrey explained his broader reluctance to marry again following his two divorces.
I just don't see the need for it. I don't know how I'd feel if I met someone that turned my head completely. I can't set hard and fast rules for the future. But just on my own, I wouldn't do it again.
Semiretirement from acting
The private wedding coincides with Carrey scaling back his acting career to lead a quieter personal life. During an April 2022 interview with Access Hollywood while promoting the film Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Carrey stated that he planned to step away from acting projects unless presented with an extraordinary project.
Well, I'm retiring. Yeah, probably. I'm fairly serious. It depends. If the angels bring some kind of script that's written in gold ink that says to me it's going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I'm taking a break.
During his César Awards speech in Paris, Carrey also paid tribute to his late father, Percy Joseph Carrey, describing him as the funniest man he ever knew and crediting him with teaching the importance of love, generosity, and laughter.
