Jakub Wieszczak ends speedway career at age 20 due to health issues
Cellfast Wilki Krosno junior Jakub Wieszczak has retired from professional speedway at age 20 after health problems prevented him from preparing for the 2027 season.
Health struggles force early retirement
Cellfast Wilki Krosno speedway rider Jakub Wieszczak has announced the end of his professional sports career at the age of 20 due to persistent health issues. The club trainee revealed his decision on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, confirming that ongoing medical problems prevent him from competing. Wieszczak started the 2026 season with a delay following an abdominal surgical procedure. In early August, he was sidelined from track competition once again as health complications unrelated to speedway reemerged. After medical consultations, the young rider determined that physical preparation for the upcoming campaign was impossible.
In a statement released through club channels, Wieszczak explained the medical reasons that guided his departure from the sport.
Unfortunately, despite the use of various treatment approaches, my current health problems do not allow me to continue speedway racing. After medical consultations, I know that I have to dedicate a lot of time to helping my body regain its full strength step by step. I know that I will not be able to start physical preparations for the new season in the near future, which would basically rule me out from riding at a good level in 2027. That is why I made the difficult but right decision to end my career.
Career trajectory and junior achievements
Wieszczak obtained his professional speedway license in 2023 under the colors of Wilki Krosno. His competitive breakthrough followed in 2025, when he helped the Krosno club capture the silver medal in the Polish Junior Team Championship (Drużynowe Mistrzostwa Polski Juniorów). During the same period, he broke into the senior squad competing in the Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga. During the 2026 league campaign, he delivered notable scoring performances, recording 4 points and 1 bonus against Abramczyk Polonia, as well as 5 points against Moonfin Magnus. In his farewell message, he expressed gratitude to the management, mechanics, coaches, and supporters who assisted his development.
I would like to thank the Cellfast Wilki Krosno club very much for the enormous support I have received over the past years. I could always count on the club's help in every aspect. I would like to thank the club management, coaches, and mechanics for the time and resources dedicated to me, which allowed me to pursue my speedway passion. I always tried to give my all on the track. I also thank the fans for the words of support that I received in Krosno and at other stadiums. Now I have to focus on regaining my health.

Wilki Krosno prepares squad changes for 2027
Wieszczak's retirement leaves an opening in the junior ranks of Cellfast Wilki Krosno ahead of the 2027 season. In recent fixtures, Oskar Kręglicki stepped in to take Wieszczak's place on the track. Club projections indicate that the primary junior pairing for next season will most likely consist of Kręglicki alongside Radosław Kowalski. Meanwhile, the Krosno team continues to promote emerging youth riders from its academy into the wider roster. On Tuesday, 29 September 2026, three youth riders earned their 500cc competition licenses, including brothers Fabian Brożyna and Maksymilian Brożyna alongside Adam Bożek. The club will rely on this new wave of academy graduates to bolster squad depth in domestic league competition.
