Iranian drones target commercial ships in Strait of Hormuz after ceasefire deal, US forces intercept them
Multiple Iranian drone attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz have been recorded since Sunday's US-Iran memorandum of understanding, with American forces shooting them down before they could cause damage, US sources told NBC News and The Jerusalem Post.
Iranian drones launched by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have targeted commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz every night since a memorandum of understanding was signed digitally between Washington and Tehran on Sunday, according to US officials cited by NBC News. The report, confirmed to The Jerusalem Post by an American source on Wednesday, states that US armed forces successfully intercepted and downed the drones before they could threaten commercial vessels, American warships, or personnel in the area.
The IRGC's role in launching the drones could indicate internal divisions within Tehran over whether Iran should cease its forceful control of the strategic waterway. US forces continue to coordinate with shipping companies to secure passage through the Strait. The reports have not been officially confirmed or denied by US authorities.
