Temporary border check in Słubice
Officers from the Polish Border Guard detained a 57-year-old citizen of Ukraine on Thursday, 1 October 2026, during an identity verification check on the border bridge in Słubice. The individual was stopped by patrol officers while attempting to cross the bridge into Polish territory. Officers from the Nadodrzański Border Guard Regional Unit carried out the check in the course of temporary border controls that are currently active at the Słubice crossing.
During the document verification process, border officers submitted the traveler's personal information to national border systems and integrated international law enforcement databases. The system check established that the traveler was flagged as an internationally wanted person. The operational verification confirmed that the traveler was listed in international records, prompting officers to secure the individual and complete the apprehension at the bridge checkpoint.

- System checks confirm an active Interpol Red Notice issued by Uzbekistan for theft.

International theft warrant from Uzbekistan
The background checks showed that the Ukrainian citizen was registered in international databases under an Interpol Red Notice. The international arrest warrant had been requested and authorized by authorities in Uzbekistan, where the 57-year-old is accused of committing thefts. Uzbek judicial and law enforcement authorities had circulated the warrant through international channels after the suspect fled the jurisdiction where the offenses were under investigation.
Capt. Paweł Biskupik, spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Regional Unit, described the outcome of the identity check and confirmed the nature of the foreign charges:
It turned out that the 57-year-old was wanted for thefts, and an arrest warrant was issued by the authorities of Uzbekistan. The man was handed over to the Słubice police.
Transfer to local police and extradition procedures
Following the initial detention at the Słubice border bridge, Border Guard officers transferred the Ukrainian citizen to the custody of the municipal police in Słubice. Officers from the Słubice police department took charge of the individual to carry out further procedural and investigative measures related to the international warrant. Following standard protocol for foreign arrest requests, the authorities are assessing the case, with the possibility that formal extradition proceedings will be opened to transfer the 57-year-old back to Uzbekistan to face trial.
An Interpol Red Notice is a global alert issued to law enforcement agencies across member countries concerning individuals wanted for prosecution or to serve a penalty. The notices are published for individuals suspected of committing serious criminal acts or those sentenced by legally binding court rulings who have subsequently escaped abroad. The primary purpose of the alert system is to enable police and border services worldwide to trace and detain fugitives so that countries can conduct extradition proceedings to the jurisdiction where the crimes occurred. The detention in Słubice demonstrates how ongoing temporary border controls and international police databases function to identify and intercept individuals pursued by foreign judicial authorities.
