
19-year-old hiker dies after 200-metre fall in Bavarian Alps
A 19-year-old from Bayreuth was found dead on Friday after falling 200 metres down a steep gully on the Vorderstaufen mountain in Bavaria, police said.
The accident
A 19-year-old man from Bayreuth died while hiking in the Berchtesgadener Land region of Bavaria. Police believe he fell approximately 200 metres down a steep, rocky gully on the Vorderstaufen mountain late Thursday evening. The fall likely caused fatal injuries instantly. He was reported missing on Friday morning after he did not show up for work, prompting a large-scale search.
Search operation
More than 50 emergency personnel from the police and mountain rescue service, along with three alpine dogs, combed the area around the Fuderheustein peak. Two helicopters and three drones were deployed to scan the rugged terrain. The search was concentrated based on the last known location shared by the victim's colleagues. Late Friday afternoon, the team discovered his lifeless body at the Fuderheustein, a rocky summit of the Fuderheuberg.

Investigation
The alpine task force east of the Piding border police has taken over the investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident. Authorities have not released the victim's name. The recovery of the body was carried out by a police helicopter.
