PKP Intercity cancels 21 trains as heatwave hits Polish rail network
Poland's long-distance rail operator PKP Intercity canceled 21 services on Monday, June 29, after high temperatures caused multiple traction network failures. Passengers were offered replacement buses or ticket acceptance on alternative trains.
Heatwave disrupts rail infrastructure
High temperatures across Poland have caused multiple failures in the railway traction network, leading PKP Intercity to cancel services for the second consecutive day. On Sunday, the operator had already warned of disruptions and organized replacement buses for some routes. The heat has strained overhead lines and power supply systems, making it unsafe to run certain trains.
Due to numerous traction network failures caused by high temperatures and traffic disruptions, PKP Intercity is canceling some trains and organizing replacement transport.
Affected routes
The canceled services include the SWAROŻYC (IC 80152/3) between Szczecin Główny and Kołobrzeg, with passengers offered travel on regional train R 88626 toward Kołobrzeg and R 88693 REGA toward Szczecin. On the Warsaw–Łódź corridor, the Jagna (IC 1902/3), PRZĄŚNICZKA (IC 9106/7), and KORCZAK (IC 19132/3) were all suspended. The BORY TUCHOLSKIE (TLK 58110/1) linking Gdynia Główna with Kostrzyn was replaced by bus transport. Other suspended trains are the SZCZELINIEC (TLK 36106/7) and Sudety (TLK 36102/3) on the Kraków–Jelenia Góra line, the KOZICA (TLK 73154/5) from Poznań to Zakopane (canceled on the Kraków–Zakopane section), and the FLISAK (TLK 45102/3) between Katowice and Gdynia. The STRZELECKI (IC 78101) and LUBUSZANIN (IC 78103) on the Zbąszynek–Gorzów Wielkopolski route, as well as the PLANTY (TLK 36100/1) from Kraków Płaszów to Wrocław, were also withdrawn.
Passenger rights and alternatives
Passengers holding valid tickets can use replacement bus services or travel on other trains with the same ticket. The operator urged travelers to follow station announcements and reminded them of the right to file complaints regarding travel comfort. Complaints can be submitted via an online form on the PKP Intercity website or in person at any ticket office bearing the company's logo.
